This workshop draws out the strengths of each student. Class exercises and group participation will take your writing to a new level. Limited to 8 students to keep the vibe intimate and fast paced.
Emphasis is on long form storytelling for novels and memoirs.
We will focus on plot, character, dialog, voice and include some elements of improv acting to open your voice.
Weekly assignments and recommended reading will be set up with all students before the first class.

Tony DuShane is the author of Confessions of a Teenage Jesus Jerk (Soft Skull Press 2010). He's a columnist for the San Francisco Chronicle and hosts the weekly literary talk show, Drinks with Tony, on Radio Valencia, 87.9FM. Hundreds of writers have been featured on the show including David Sedaris, Chuck Klosterman, Nick Cave, Chuck Palahniuk, James Ellroy, Irvine Welsh, Miranda July and William T. Vollmann.
His articles and essays have been published in many anthologies and publications including Mother Jones, The Believer, The Rumpus and The Bold Italic. He also writes for television and film.The adaptation of his novel is in pre-production.
