The Novel Approach

Writing workshops geared towards the fundamentals of crafting stories for publishing or production.

The Novel Approach (Eight Student Limit)
A fast paced workshop to dive into the craft of novel writing, the different approaches, and how to write character, plot, and develop tone, voice, and theme. Students will leave the class with flushed out scenes and a solid game plan to finish their novel. We meet online via zoom.

Instructor: Tony DuShane

Students I’ve worked with have sold screenplays and acquired literary and film agents after working with me. One student who worked with me on her novel from idea to final draft for submission received a six-figure, two book deal from Simon & Schuster.

My novel Confessions of a Teenage Jesus Jerk (Soft Skull Press/Penguin) was made into a film from my adapted screenplay directed by Eric Stoltz in 2018 and is now available on Amazon Prime. My work as a writer and also doing marketing and publicity for publishing, and working behind the scenes on film and TV productions helps me see the entire game from idea to publication and release. I’ve seen many mistakes and many triumphs along the way. Learn from my career mistakes and career wins while we work on how to tap the creativity you already have to create the most compelling work as a novelist or screenwriter.
